HOW WE DO THINGS
STEP 1
PRE PRODUCTION
“If you want to make a great record, you have to start with a great song”
Arguably the most important part of the process and one often missed by a lot of studios. This is the first step in getting your songs to sound the best they possibly can. Before we start the recording process we’ll get you to the studio to run through your songs a few times while recording some quick demos. The point of this is so everyone can hear the songs before we start recording, you might be surprised how different they sound when you’re not playing them! From here we can make microphone and instrument choices as well as giving helpful feedback on your songs.
STEP 2
RECORDING
This is the fun part of the process where we actually record your songs. We’ll guide you through the process in a super relaxed environment aiming to get the best performance out of you as possible. You’ll have full access to all of our backline of which you can find a full list at the following link
STEP 3
MIXING
This is where your songs really take shape. No later than 7 days after the last day of tracking you’ll receive your first test mix of 1 song. This is to check we’re on the right track with how you want the final mix to sound. After you’ve signed off on this we’ll use it as the base to mix the rest of the songs.
STEP 4
MASTERING
Mastering seems to be the elusive dark art that no one understands. Here’s the simplest explanation I could find.
“Mastering is the final step of audio post-production. The purpose of mastering is to balance sonic elements of a stereo mix and optimise playback across all systems and media formats. Traditionally mastering is done using tools like equalisation, compression, limiting and stereo enhancement. There are several considerations in this process: unifying the sound of a record, painting consistency across an album and preparing for distribution.”
